Through the Teacher’s Eyes

I asked Teacher Mr. Von Zimmerman some questions on his thoughts on teaching at Gig Harbor High School, as this year has progressed, to see what my students have changed too.

Q: What are your thoughts on phones in the classroom

A: “I understand the phenomenon of phones, but students should recognize the time and place to use. I will be putting up phone caddies during class to keep the distraction of a phone away. I get if you need to make an important message you can.”

Q: What is the most important part about teaching.

A: “You’re all still children and most teachers don’t fully understand that you need to be treated like children with privileges and I’m helping develop you into young adults.”

Q: Thoughts on homework??

A: “I don’t give homework since I feel in Spanish having you write sentences is not essential to learning the language it’s more of a study tool. Yet in classes like math it’s very important to give homework since tests are very high stress. I give homework for

VHL which most students finish in class since I give them all period to work it, also I feel most homework should be for projects.”

Q: What is your favorite part of the day.

A: “My favorite part of the day is walking down the halls or outside and get smiles from people, or coming into my 6th-period class since I always I know it will be productive.”
