Lady Tides Dominate with Undefeated Record

October 12, 2015

The Lady Tides continue to dominate the Narrows League in their convincing victory against Stadium on Thursday, October 8th.

Taking on third place Stadium, the Tides looked to remain undefeated in league with a 6-0-0 record, (7-2-1) overall. Stadium entered the game with a record of 4-2 in league and looked one of the teams that were poised to be a threat to the Tides. Heading into the match, Gig Harbor, known for fast attacking play, lead by the dynamic duo of junior forwards Kaysie Bruce and Leahi Manthei.

The Tides tried to stamp their authority in the game early on but it was Stadium with the first real dangerous chance, with junior Sam Putnam shooting just wide of the post, at the 14th minute.

Just 2 minutes later, the Tides had a chance of their own when junior Kaysie Bruce cut a beautiful square ball into the path of senior midfielder Lauren Hatteberg who shot the chance just wide. This was a warning though for Stadium, as just a minute later the Tides were at it again. With 28 minutes remaining in the half, the Tides made it 1-0 when junior Leahi Manthei ran onto a ball played by senior Elly Aronson and finished clinically past the goalkeeper into the corner of the goal. This was followed by an onslaught of pressure by the Tides with shots on goal from Elly Aronson, senior Joey Watermeyer, Lauren Hatteberg and Kaysie Bruce all within the next 5 minutes.

Soon one was bound to find the back of the net and it came with 10 minutes left in the half when Kaysie Bruce scored a rocket from 25 yards out to give the Tides a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Ten minutes into the second half the tides were at it again, a Kaysie Bruce cross put the ball on the platter for birthday girl Joey Watermeyer to head home giving the tides a 3-0 lead, they were cruising now. The Tides would keep applying the pressure and Leahi Manthei would steal the ball from an unsuspecting defender leading to a 1v1 with the keeper and she made no mistake, burying it into the bottom corner making it 4-0 and scoring her second of the match.

Although the Tides dominated the match, the Tigers would get one back with junior Alexa Herrmann scoring a rebound goal from an ill-fated back pass. It didn’t matter though and our lady tides were comfortable for the rest of the match even though the Stadium players started getting a bit chippy.

Lauren Hatteberg said after the match that “ We are really pleased with the way we played and have been playing, we are improving immensely as a team offensively and defensively.”

With play continued like this who knows how far our Lady Tides can go, with a 4th place finish in State last year, they have the experience and talent to make another late postseason run. With the final score being 4-1, the Tides improve their league record to 7-0-0 and there overall to 8-2-1. Their next game is Tuesday, October 12th at home vs Olympia, who has just one win on the season.
