Video games are often frowned upon in our society. Negative stereotypes permeate the culture of gamers but in actuality the vast majority of people who enjoy interactive entertainment are just good people with an infectious passion for the medium. A medium that has evolved from something for kids and hobbyists to a multi-billion dollar industry that unites people of all walks of life. Making a club for the art form seems like an obvious conclusion but it was only just this year that president Nick Butler started the club.  “Video games are my life, I literally can’t go too long without playing video games without going through withdrawal” quips Nick, “my favorite game would have to be Super Mario Sunshine, it’s the first game where I realized video games were my passion.”

The club meets every Wednesday in the library. Most meetings will simply entail the group playing video games together or alone but once a month the club will host a tournament and a raffle. The reward for winning the tournament is yet to be determined but the lucky winner of the raffle will acquire in game prizes.

“I like video games because they make me feel in… like I am that person, and they make me feel like I have to use my brain more” mused treasurer Jared Lobdell who says his favorite game is Modern Warfare. Video games are a growing craze and I don’t see them going away anytime soon. It’s awesome to see a group of people having a good time and sharing their passion. And that’s what videogames are all about.
