The bleachers full of pink and a velvet red carpet rolled out across the gym floor! What better way to start the Homecoming Assembly? As usual, we started the assembly with the national anthem. It was sung this time by senior Caroline Goodwin. Then, two representatives from each grade level came down to the gym floor to compete in a game. The first student to throw one of their three footballs through a hoop won! Sydney Daily brought it home for the seniors when she hit her hoop before freshman Elliot White.

Afterwards, H2Whoa members Taylor Wellbrock, Jessica Haworth, Emma Miller, Bryce Greene, Lizzie Mercurio, Grace Dullum, and Mayieteh Kimball gave an upbeat performance. This was followed by a game of Who’s Your New Bestie played by the staff. Coach Chantler was the male staff member to ask questions. He unknowingly asked questions to Mrs. Janski, Mrs. Stabisevschi, and Mrs. Klein, including “If you had a theme song what would it be?”, “If you could have lunch with anybody, who would it be, and why?”, and “If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?” He chose his new bestie to be Mrs. Klein! The female staff member to choose her new bestie was Mrs. Wenrich. She asked, “What color best describes your personality and why?”, “If you could be any animal what animal would you be and why?”, and “If you were stranded on an island what three things would you want with you?” Out of Mr. Frost, Mr. Everett, and Mr. Frazier, she chose Mr. Everett to be her new bestie.

Finally, it was time to announce the 2014 Homecoming royalty!  The freshman prince and princess were Austin Dempewolf and Sophia Hatteberg, Chris Cox and Danielle Veles were the sophomore prince and princess, and the junior prince and princess were Lauren Hatteberg and Davis Alexander. Finally, the senior king and queen were Liv T’sas and Brandon Schmunk. The runner-ups for senior queen were Emery Wallerich and Emily Sutton, and the runner-ups for king were Jonathan Brown and Charlie Carpenter. After the pictures and applause, the leadership students gave a presentation on the dos and don’ts of the dance, including, do dress appropriately and don’t twerk! To wrap up the assembly, the Varsity Football team led the Tides through the GHHS fight song.
