Girls For Change
November 29, 2014
One of the emerging clubs this year is the Girls for Change Club. “Girl power is the name and girl power is the game,” says junior Riley Paul. This new and exciting club provides a network that supports and celebrates all girls.
“All females are capable of amazing things. Our main goal is to spread equality and positivity throughout the girl community” says junior Vy Sanders. The primary purpose of Girls For Change is to support girls in finding their own voice free of judgment, to reach out and promote equality and opportunity within the girl community, and to celebrate the individuality of all girls.
Through this sisterhood, girls can alter the lens with which they see the world and themselves. “Basically girls for change is all about reaching out to make every girl at our school feel welcomed, unique, and loved. You should be pumped out about our club,” says junior Anna Knutson.
Girls for Change is especially inclusive to new students. “I joined Girls for Change club because I moved here a few weeks into the school year last year, and I thought it would be good to get close to a group of girls, while changing the community of girls in general to be more accepting and supportive,” says junior Haley Weiss.
Membership is open to all girls regardless of race, religious beliefs, or sexual preference. Any girl wishing to have a positive impact in changing the girl culture of Gig Harbor High School should head on over to Mrs. Wenrich’s room every Wednesday at 2:15 p.m.
