This Monday, I had the opportunity to spend time hanging out with the Spectrum Club. The Spectrum Club is a new club addition to Gig Harbor’s many clubs, that joins together members and supporters of the LGBTQ community. For those who don’t know, LGBTQ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer.

“Spectrum Club is a place where people of all genders and sexualities can gather and have a good time,”states club vice president Bella Saltvick.

The club is an organization that brings people of all sexual preferences together to support each other, providing a safe environment where members can socialize and all in all, have a good time. The club also is thinking of ideas in the community to fight homophobia and transphobia. The people currently in the club are extremely welcoming. The moment I walked into the room they all greeted me and asked me to introduce myself.  They were currently in the middle of electing club officers when I walked in. Vivian Oonaleson became the president, Bella Saltvick was the vice president, and Phoenix Crooks won secretary treasurer, congratulations!

The club is still contininuing to grow, so if you are part of the LGBTQ community here at Gig Harbor High School or just support them, I highly recommend you attend the club meetings every Mondays after school. The people are very nice and friends are easy to make. I’ll leave you off by a simple quote by club member Torun Millberg.

Plain and simple, all she said was, “Love wins!”
