Best Dogs for Families
Have you ever begged your parents to get a dog? Have you ever protested to get a pet? If so, you are normal. Many kids love having a pet. The pets that are highly recommended for families of all shapes and sizes are Beagles, Boxers, Collies, Golden Retrievers, French Bulldogs, Dachshunds, Poodles, Pugs, Vizslas, Newfoundlands, Papillons, Irish Setters and Labrador Retrievers. Although all of these breeds are family-friendly, here are the top five best family dogs I recommend!
The Beagle: The beagle was used for hunting in the 1500s and because beagles have short coats, they require very little care for it. It is a small to medium dog and weighs 18-35 pounds. The beagle is a cheerful, friendly, intelligent and gentle dog. They also really love being around people and other dogs.
The Boxer: The boxer was used for hunting and fighting large animals. It is a medium to large dog and weighs 55-70 pounds. This is a high energy dog, that is very obedient. Boxers are protective of their owners-especially young children-and will have amazing courage if they feel threatened. They need a little grooming, but other than that they are low maintenance.
The Golden Retriever: The Golden Retriever is an athletic dog that is aims to please. This dog is large-55-75 pounds-and has medium golden fur. They are patient, kind and very loving. Golden Retrievers require brushing and daily exercise. An excellent nose helps the Golden to hunt and their gentleness is perfect for those who are disabled or therapy work.
The Pug: The pug has an even temper, has an outgoing, loving disposition and is very playful. This Asian dog originated from before 400 B.C.! Pugs are an excellent choice for families with children because they are sturdy, trainable, adaptable and need very little exercise. The pug has a short coat, is small-14 to 18 pounds-and low energy. Pugs are perfect for families with children.
The Newfoundland: The Newfoundland is large to giant in size, but sweet in personalty. This dog can be anywhere from 100-150 pounds! They have a short coat, are suitable for children, need daily exercise and are low energy. Newfoundlands can swim in water, have lifesaving instincts and its thick fur protect it for the cold water. This dog is intelligent and friendly, is easy to train and is perfect for families with kids.
