Tides Look to Continue Unbeaten Run versus Yelm

The Tides shake hands with the Olympia Bears after their big win on Friday by a score of 27-26.

Week 7 of the Washington Varsity football season is in the books and the Gig Harbor Tides remain undefeated. The Tides are coming off of a huge League win against the Olympia Bears.

They traveled down to Ingersoll Stadium last week and squeaked away with a 27-26 comeback win. This was the first real test of their season so far in the Narrows. Nonetheless, the Tides rose to the challenge.

They look to continue their success on Friday night against the visiting Yelm Tornadoes. This will be the Tides’ Senior Night celebration, in which all the current senior football players are honored before the game. The Tornadoes are 5-2 (2-2 League) and are coming off of an important win as well, 42-35 in OT against the Bellarmine Lions. With a Win against Gig Harbor and a Bellarmine loss, Yelm would have a chance to finish 3rd in League, with a spot in the playoffs, bumping Bellarmine out of contention. The Tides are working to make sure this doesn’t happen.

“We can’t start out this game like we did last week against Olympia. We have to play our game for all four quarters,” says senior receiver Cory Condon. This is a huge game in regards to Narrows League standings, and at the Gig Harbor Sound we believe that the home team, on senior night, will come out with a win to continue their undefeated season. Tides will take this game, 35-7.
