Hey there all you Gig Harbor kids! I have a question for you all. When is the last time you read a good story? I mean, a real good story? One with adventure, compelling characters, and visceral writing? Well if it’s been awhile then I have quite the story for you! Breathe Again, a fantastic and classic rags to riches drama written by our very own GHHS senior Elyse Miyake.

The story is about a young man by the name of Fulton Calibur who lives a dejected and depressed life in the low class, dystopian slum of Sector 4. He grew up poor, and very envious of the glamorous and posh lives of those who lived in Sector 1, and the acclaimed stars of the powerful VIP League. That is until Fulton discovers that he holds the power to look into a person’s entire life, their past, present, and probable future, a taboo that could become his downfall. Fulton finally escapes Sector 4, and with the help of a woman named Ava, a once renowned VIP mentor whose reputation was ruined. With her help, he may have a chance to rise to fame and fortune. So long both his and Ava’s secret pasts and abilities aren’t exposed.

Breathe Again is a “new age” tale that is tailored for young and growing adults. It has everything you could want in a compelling story. Miyake has taken a lot of time and effort into carefully shaping all the elements of action, romance, satire, and creating a believable and fascinating fictional dystopia that rivals that of the Hunger Games and Divergent novels. And not to mention the intense instances of suspenseful situations in which the characters are put into!

Having read most of it myself, I can say without a doubt that I have had a great time experiencing this story.  Witnessing these characters overcome their obstacles and trials (most of the time), and seeing them being thrusted into dramatic circumstances is very entertaining and makes every page worth reading. My own favorite character so far has to be Fulton Calibur himself, because the guy himself can just be so darn suave and cultivated. Elyse Miyake still isn’t done putting the finishing touches on the story, however its epic conclusion isn’t too far away!
