Seahawks’ Record Breaking Season

It was a tragic day for the Northwest on Sunday, January 17th when the Seattle Seahawks fell short to the Carolina Panthers 24-31 in the “NFC Division Title Game”. However, though the season has come to an end, the team didn’t go home empty-handed. Many players achieved franchise records this season and have proved yet again that our team from Washington state is still one of greatest in the country.

No players managed to snag any NFL records, but a couple did set records for the Seattle football team. For instance, starting QB Russell Wilson. The man is 27 years young and already has the the NFL all time record for touchdown passes in a rookie season with 26. This year he managed to get the Seahawks records for… highest completion rating in a career(64.7) and in a season(68.1), most touchdowns in a season(34), and most touchdowns in a game(5). He also has the most games with 5+ touchdowns(2) most touchdowns with 3+ touchdowns(6) and currently ties the NFL record for most games in a season with 1+ touchdowns(16). He truly is one of the greatest the organization has seen.

Now when it comes to the other offensive roles, there were two men who stood out on the roster, running back Thomas Rawls and star wide receiver Doug Baldwin. Rawls managed to take the prize for highest average yards per rush in a rookie season with 5.7. Baldwin managed to join him on the franchise board with the most receiving touchdowns in a single season with 14.

Now, the real surprise breakout star was wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who the Hawks picked up in the 3rd round of the 2015 draft from Kansas State. In his first year playing professional ball he managed to break 6 Seahawks records…most punt return yards in a game(139), highest kick return average for rookie(25.8), most kick return yards gained in a rookie season(852), most kick return yards for a rookie in a season(1,231), and most all purpose yards for a rookie with 1,915. However, the one that impressed me the most was the longest kick return with an insane 105 return which boosted him up to the 17th longest return in NFL history.

So all in all, we may not have a 2nd Lombardi trophy, but there’s no reason to be depressed because this year was one of the best of the of the 40 year history of Seahawks. But between you and me…we’ll go all the way next year.
