‘Creed’ Review
Coming 39 years after the original film Rocky, Creed is the kind of picture that brings a fresh atmosphere to an old classic. Coming into the theater I was a bit skeptical as to whether or not this movie was worth sitting through, I mean all sports movies are the same right? The antagonist faces a problem, overcomes it, and wins the championship. Well, after watching this movie I was taken aback at just how wrong I was.
The movie is set as follows… Adonis Creed never got to know his father, and boxing legend Apollo Creed who died after Adonis was born. However, with boxing in his blood he still wants to be like his champion father and seeks out the fighting legend Rocky Balboa, whom he asks to be mentored by, to which Rocky agrees. Now, with a match against an undefeated opponent on the rise, Creed must put his heart and soul into his training. Will Adonis even come close to beating the champion of the ring? Well, I’ll let you find out for yourself.
To get it out of the way, I guarantee this movie will bring out every emotion you would want to experience during a movie. You will laugh, you will cry, and you could possibly even cringe (which is a good thing for a boxing movie to do). To add on to that, the film had all the things that make a movie great. Ryan Coogler did a great job directing, Sylvester Stallone brings a classic performance whereas Michael B. Jordan portrays raw talent in his acting skills. The screenplay is magnificent as well as the music which is a mix of hip hop tunes as well as the classic themes of the franchise, and the movie as a whole is eye candy to watch. One of my friends I went to see the movie with freshman Ian Nattkemper went as far as to say it was, “one of the most motivational films he’s seen.”
It was hard for me to find an flaws in this movie that took the experience away from me. I’d give this movie a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Recommended for teens and adults who want to kick back and watch a great film.
