Wattpad is a social media app which gives people the chance to have their creative works available to a wide range of audience. These users are able to indulge into a writing community to post or read articles, stories, fan fiction, or poems through either the mobile app or the website. Wattpad includes work by undiscovered writers, beginning writers, and published writers, giving all of the users an equal chance to write popular works. All users are allowed to comment and vote on the stories and are even welcomed to join groups associated with the website.

Wattpad was one of the few selected as the hottest Digital Media company in the country at the Canadian Innovation Exchange, on December 2011. In that same year, co-founder and CEO Ivan Yuen was also accredited as a top Canadian entrepreneur at the Impact Infused Awards, which was sponsored by Deloitte. Deloitte is the second largest professional services network in the world, which made Wattpad represented to a larger audience when Deloitte decided to support them.

To this day, Wattpad now holds annual contests every year and a major one. The large annual contest is called ‘The Watty Awards.’ The second largest contest would be ‘Just Write it.’ These main contests help writers all around the world get noticed by many new users and even some organizations looking for fresh writers. In the year of 2011, The Watty Awards had introduced three main entry levels which consist of ‘Popular, On The Rise, and undiscovered’ to allow greater chances of winning the award for all different types of writers in the communities. All of theses contests are open to anyone who is a user of Wattpad.

The most frequent voted stories will appear on the ‘What’s Hot List.’ This list will change frequently per day because this list is only determined on the votes and views of the Wattpad users. Many of these books on the ‘What’s Hot List’ consist of teenage writers.

Wattpad section also has a ‘Featured Story List,’ which promotes stories approved by staff and an editorial review board. Many of these stories that are featured on this list are stories that are written by self-published and professional writers from many different genres, but most of the genre consists of romance and horror/mystery.
