Every year, seniors at Gig Harbor High take part in the Nerf Wars elimination tournament. Teams of 2-7 senior students band together to win a big cash prize. The 2016 seniors have over 40 teams made and a huge sum of over $2,300 to win in this year’s tournament. The rules of the game are simple. Each team is assigned two teams to hunt for a given number of days. In this time they must shoot and “kill” their “quota” of the opposing team’s players, with Nerf brand guns and darts. If they do not meet their quota their team is eliminated. The wars start at 12:00 A.M midnight PST on Monday, April 24th. A full list of the rules can be found here: http://ghhsnerfwars.weebly.com/rules–guidelines.html.

Tripod Tribe Rides #1 Ranking Into the Sunset

On Wednesday, May 25th all the remaining six Nerf teams gathered at Sehmel Park’s turf field for a one-on-one bracket style elimination tournament to win the $2,250 cash prize. The final teams were the Tripod Tribe, Handy Andy and the Tool Shed, Uncle Jer’s Muffin Top Mafia, Seal Team 6.9, and the Underwater Squad. Each team came locked and loaded with an arsenal of nerf weapons and darts, and were given five minutes to hunt the opposing team in the bracket within the boundaries of the football field. The winners of each match were determined by whichever team had more people alive after the five minute round.  After a series of heated battles, the Tripod Tribe emerged on top and secured the money.

We asked Garrett Mayes of the Tripod Tribe his thoughts on the tournament.

“The battles were very intense and strategic. While we were out there and things started going downhill, but we were able to regain our composure and close out the tournament with a win,” says Mayes.

Lastly, we would like to thank Riley Paul for her huge contribution of time and effort to the tournament. Thanks to Riley, Nerf Wars was possible, and it was run efficiently and fairly.
