Leicester City claims the BPL Title

After a grueling 43 game season, the Barclays Premier League(BPL) season has come to an end with the previously unknown team from Leicester, England was crowned as champions. The Leicester City Foxes were never a successful top flight team. The only time they came close to a BPL championship was when they were runner ups…in 1929. They weren’t even really thought of as a threat or a contending team until we saw the team this season.

Right off the bat of the season, you could tell the Foxes meant business. Staying undefeated until their 9th game when they fell to Arsenal 2-5, from there they started pummeling their way to the top, drawing or winning the next 11 games.

By the end of the season, the Foxes had only lost three games, and continued to amaze as they cruised passed Manchester United and Everton and finished off the season with a 1-1 draw against the Chelsea Blues, giving them the  BPL championship win for the first time in the team’s 132 year history.

When it comes to the main factors of the team’s success, it was clear to see who stood out on top. First and foremost is the team’s star striker Jamie Vardy. Throughout the season, Vardy was the 9th top scoring player in world this year, with 29 goals which also gave him the BPL record for most consecutive games with a goal(13 goals in 11 games). He gained recognition across Europe as one of the best at his position this year. Another player who helped Leicester climb to the top was Algerian right-winger Riyad Mahrez who also astounded with 21 total goals. The team was also strong across the board with a solid defense in captain Wes Morgan and Robert Huth, midfield in N’Golo Kante, and a great goalkeeper in Kasper Schmeichel.

The team is now well-known, well structured powerhouse that seemed to be unstoppable this season. With a total of  68 goals this season, there’s no telling what Leicester City Football Club will bring to the table in the upcoming years. Congrats on a great season Foxes!
