Tides great season ends 2nd round of State
The dominant Narrows League team came up short in a close 7-5 loss against Kentwood. The loss kept the Tides from repeating an appearance in the Elite Eight as they did last year.
While the Tides came up with the upperhand thanks to UCLA committee Michael Toglia and his dominant pitching in a 1-0 win, the Tides came up short against Kentwood.
In the first game, Mt. Si’s pitcher Mike Boyce, also a pitcher on New Zealand’s National Team put up a strong uphill battle for the Tides, throwing in the low 90’s with a formidable offspeed pitch. The Tides got an early lead courtesy of Chad Steven’s double to drive in Michael Toglia. However, Toglia’s shutout with 10 strikeouts provided the Tides with a trip to game two.
Moving onto Kentwood, the Tides got off two a rough start after giving up six runs in the first two innings. The longer the game went on the slimmer the chances for the Tides got.
In the fifth inning, Jon Burghardt hit a 2 RBI single. Then Chad Stevens hit a 2 RBI double. Which made the game 7-4.
In the sixth inning the Tides pushed across one run to slim the margin to 7-5. The Tides came up short and lost but ended with an impressive record. They finished off with a Narrows League Championship and a dominant record of 19-9.
