Being a Student Teacher: Interview with Mrs. Flowers

Mrs. Flowers is a student teacher in our math department. She has been teaching classes for Mrs. Klein and Mr. Clark to help her gain experience in the field. We here down in the yearbook room  thought it would be a great idea to interview her.

Q: What made you want to go into teaching?

A: My parents are teachers. I grew up always staying late at school with them and doing extra activities so it seemed normal to work as a teacher. I chose math specifically because math teachers made the biggest difference in my understanding out of all the subjects.

Q: What is your favorite part of student teaching?

A: My favorite part of student teaching is getting to know my students. There is always someone with a funny story to tell so we laugh a lot.

Q: What is something about yourself you still need to work on?

A: The biggest thing I would improve is my time management. Teaching, grading, going to meetings, and lesson planning are all things that take a lot of time. I need to get better at finding a balance.

Q: What have you had to study to become a teacher?

A: I am in a twelve month Master’s program at PLU. I have to go to class there a few nights a week and do different assignments for that. I also have to complete the Ed T.P.A.. I turn in lesson plans and videos of myself teaching in order to get my certificate.

Q: What is it like working with Mrs. Klein?

A: Mrs. Klein and I were friends before I was her student teacher. It has been awesome to work with such a fun, high-energy teacher. I think we have definitely gotten closer as friends.
