So far, this year’s girls basketball teams have made their way to victory. The girls varsity team is doing outstandingly well this season with a league record of 5-1 so far. They have worked incredibly hard to get to where they are today. These tides put in so much time and effort to train and perfect their skills. They have intense practices at least three days a week, they play about two games each week, and are required to do at least two sessions of weight training with Coach Marquez. On all teams, the players commit about 10 hours each week to scheduled practices. The practices include many sprints and conditioning, shooting drills, passing drills, and creating or practicing plays. The girls spend even more time working by themselves to continue to practice and improve on free throws, jump shots, ball handling, and so much more. Not only do the teams spend their time together practicing, but also through team bonding experiences. Some team bonding activities include team dinners, watching basketball games, going to Zoo Lights, and many more fun adventures. Some basketball favorites are, “watching the varsity girls play in their game after we play ours,” (Jalen Meyerpeter) “when Coach Bando doesn’t make us run,” (Emma Young) “team bonding and eating good food at people’s houses” (Brie Ostbye) and “playing defense,” (Lauryn Boschulte).

On December 15, the girls varsity team won against our long time rivals, the Peninsula Seahawks. It was a great way to start off our winter break. It was an intense home game and our Tides did amazing. The theme of the game was “Red-out,” to support the American Heart Association. The student section way crazy. All those that were there were all dressed in red, ready to support the Tides. The Tides won against Peninsula with a final score of 60-30. On January 23, the Tides go over to Peninsula to play them again. Let’s get another win, Tides!
