A Great Season for Tides Baseball

Varsity Baseball Team

Expectations are very high for the Tides varsity baseball team this season. The team this year finished 13 and 6 total and 9 and 3 in league play, placing them at second place in the league behind South Kitsap going into the playoffs. Senior Captains Conor Scanlan and Mark Sluys, made sure to keep the expectations and work ethic at practice very high. The team has very high hopes for a strong playoff run.

Many of the returning seniors on this team have played baseball together since long before high school. They have developed a very strong bond and brotherhood in sports and life in general. Senior second baseman, Chad Glover, had this to say about the chemistry,

“We know everything about each other, on and off the field.

Over the years we have been through a lot and are very

                             comfortable with each other.”

The attitude of the seniors does not just sit within the seniors; it sets an example of hard work and trust throughout all the younger players. The goal is not to have one year of a strong bond but to show the younger players how much it can help and have them pass it on to the future teams.

The Tides got off to a rough start to the season as in their first game they were shut out by Timberline. After their first loss they had a meeting led by the captains; they calmed the team and told them it was a non-league game and that we could learn from it and bounce back. It paid off. The next game was against Stadium and the Tides rocked them 23-0.  This got the Tides rolling to an exciting 13 and 6 season.

Playoffs will not be an easy road for the tides. In the first round they have Olympia who the Tides manage to beat both times in the regular season. Both games were close so they would have to bring their A-game. If they manage to beat Olympia they will move on to South Kitsap who beat the Tides twice during the season. Both of those games were close as well. If the Tides lose to Olympia they will have to play Puyallup who has a record of 20 and 0 therefore it would be a very difficult game. However the team wants to take it one game at a time and is focusing on their upcoming game against Olympia.

It has been a very explosive and exciting year for the Tides and the excitement is high as they roll into the playoffs. The school is behind the team and hoping they add to the successful year in sports that they have already had. Good luck to the Tides baseball team and keep up the hard work!
