Fishbowl Recap
Included: Fishbowl Q&A's
September 13, 2014
“I think Tides are going to win, because Tides,” says Freshman Anna Mandarino shortly before she celebrated Gig Harbor’s victory in the annual Fishbowl. Students from all grade levels of GHHS came ready to cheer and celebrate in what Mandarino called their “typical” Tide-Pride wear. Gig Harbor citizens of all ages come to watch and cheer every year at the Fishbowl. It’s a chance for everyone, football fan or not, to get together and show their school spirit or just see a great game. Even fans such as Mandarino who says ”I don’t watch a lot of football,” was excited to root for the Tides varsity team in her brightest blue and white. With such a great turn out each year the stadium is full of students, parents, and teachers all rooting for their team.
GHHS started the game strong with the first touchdown of the game, but by the end of the first half things seemed dim for the Tides. Starting the second half with the Seahawks ahead 10-29, Gig Harbor’s varsity team didn’t let the depressing atmosphere on the away side of the field get them down, and by the end of the 3rd quarter things seemed almost possible for the Tides. Part way through the final quarter Gig Harbor finally swayed the score. When Gig Harbor held off their long time rivals, the Peninsula High Seahawks, at the end of an intense 4th quarter, the field was a mob of blue and white as Tides fans of all ages ran out to cheer with their varsity team. With a final score of 30-29, many Gig Harbor fans went home satisfied with high hopes for next year’s Fishbowl.
