Upcoming ASB Elections

Upcoming ASB Elections

As the weather warms and the school year nears its end, Gig Harbor High is preparing for the 2024–25 school year by holding ASB elections. The ASB elections opened for applications before spring break and were due by Wednesday, April 24. The positions that were up for election were: school president, vice president, activities coordinator, secretary, and treasurer. These positions make up the executives and have certain parameters that students must fit into to apply. These parameters are that the president, vice president, and spirit coordinator are only available to future seniors, while the secretary and treasurer are available to incoming seniors and juniors. In addition to the executives, each class votes for four senators to represent them throughout the school year. Each position has specific responsibilities and duties throughout the school once elected. The school president’s responsibilities include being the head of ASB, running ASB meetings, representing the student body, and more. The vice president assists the president by helping run meetings, voting at meetings, and helping run ASB elections. The activities coordinator works to improve school spirit and community by running the leadership Instagram, planning game themes, and helping with school events. The secretary helps run meetings by recording and keeping track of time; additionally, they have voting rights at all meetings. Lastly, the treasurer works with the ASB and administration by presenting financial reports and working closely with the bookkeeper. Presidential candidate Ty Rushforth (11) said, “I’m looking forward to election season. It will be fun to campaign and speak in front of the school.” Campaigning spans from May 6th to May 13th, when speeches will be held during homeroom. The following homeroom, May 20th, the school will vote for class senators. “I’m looking forward to senator elections; hopefully I will win,” said senatorial applicant Max Potashnik (11). No matter who gets elected, one thing is for sure: this election season will be exciting.
