GHHS Boys Water Polo Member shoots a goal.

On September 15, the Boy’s Water Polo team won their first league game with their 20 to nothing victory against the new South Kitsap team. The Gig Harbor home game that started at 7:30 that evening proved to be exciting with Tides fans, as well as Kitsap fans, filling the bleachers and cheering their own team on.  The rapid strokes, steady passing, and effortless goals are all thanks to their dedication over the past year. Junior Hayden Sams commented on the season as a whole, “Considering that by our second game we had more wins than we had for the entire season last year, I say we’re doing pretty well.” The team has made leaps and bounds since last year and there is no denying that this season will be one to remember.

The JV game proved to be just as successful with a ten to zero win for the Tides. It was captivating to see teamwork in and out of the pool. Whether huddled around their coaches, Diana and Harrison, or splashing for the ball in the pool, their absolute focus and reliance on each other was present. Interestingly enough, a new water polo player, sophomore Dominic Betts, scored five of the totaling ten points for the JV game. In his first season of water polo, it was impressive to see such an amazing feat. Each JV player made the Kitsap game a proud win for the Tides. The boys, both JV and Varsity, owned the pool that night, displaying true Tides power. Come to the next home game to show your support and have fun. Go Tides!

Q: Do you have any specific goals for the team?

A: So my goal this year is to set up and have more movement. That’s what I would like.”
