Baseball is a sport filled with highs and lows. The Tides boys baseball faced an extreme high after an exhilarating win over the Capital Cougars, this win allowed the Tides to continue on into state playoffs. Continuing off into playoffs the Tides faced off against Mercer Island Islanders. This game had a lot on the line, especially for the seniors, who knew this game could be their last. Every player went off into that game and gave it their all. Disappointingly, the Islanders took an early lead in the first off of an error, little did the Tides know this was not going to be their only road block. Later in the second the Tides were able to put a run up in the second inning, marking the first and only run for the tides. The game stayed at a stalemate until the top of the 4th, where the pitching staff struggled to find the strike zone, ultimately walking a bunch of batters and the Tides lost control of the game. The Islanders were ultimately able to put up 12 more runs in this one catastrophe of an inning. This one defining inning marked the end of the tides baseball season. The team was heartbroken. Each and everyone of them put blood, sweat, and tears into this season, and letting it go was hard. Their season was full of friendship and brotherhood. Tristan Schaffer (12) stated, “it was hard to say goodbye to this team; they were like my second family.” Wes Bonnici (11) continued and said, “This was the last time I’d get to play with these seniors, that’s kind of sad I guess.” Watching the team end in a disappointing way was hard for these players but even harder for the coaches. Coach Dicky said, “We watched you boys develop and grow, now watching you boys move on hit hard deep.” Although this loss was hard, the team was still grateful to be able to play with each other and had a super fun season, making memories they will never forget.
