State Parks

There are so many state parks in the United States. Nearby, Washington and Oregon have some very pretty state parks. I asked some people about their favorite state parks, and Olivia McClements (10) said, “I love to go to Fort Flagler State Park in the summer.” Fort Flagler State Park is a very fun campground to visit. There is a lot to do at Fort Flagler. It’s a historical state park that has bunkers that were built in 1897. There are so many bunkers to look at, and some of them you can still walk through. Some of them have a very good view of the water, and most are in very good condition. There are so many beautiful trails you can go on. Some of them led to the bunkers in other areas of the park. There’s a campground down by the beach, or you can camp in a more forested area. At the start of the campground, there is a group campground that you can stay at. I also asked Sophia Powers-O’keeffe (10) what her favorite state park was, and she said, “I like Dosewallips State Park.” Dosewallips State Park is a very beautiful park. At Dosewallip State Park, there’s a river by the campground. At some of the campsites, there are trails that lead to the river. There was a campground that was right on the river, but the river took it over, so now you can’t camp over there, but you can walk over and swim in the river. In August, you can see salmon returning home to lay their eggs. There are many trails you can go on. Sometimes you can see elk go through the campground. You can see elk on the trails, but you want to stay away from them. There are a lot of campsites to choose from. In addition to these two wonderful replies, Ava Hurley (10) said, “I love to go to Cape Disappointment.” Cape Disappointment State Park is a campground with a beach and a lake that you can camp by. There is a trail where you can go up to a lighthouse. There’s a beautiful view when you get up there. There’s also a road you can drive up. There are two areas where you can camp. The lake site is farther from the beach, or you can camp very close to the beach. The beach sunsets are very pretty, and even though you can’t see the sunrise in the west, you can still see a little color in the morning. In the winter, there is flooding, so they close off some of the campground during the winter. These state parks here in Washington and Oregon are fun places to camp or just visit for the day.
