Prepare to promenade! This year’s theme for Prom is Hollywood and the dance is called A Night at the Museum, a callback to the 2006 blockbuster movie franchise starring Ben Stiller. Prom for many people is a moment that they have looked forward to since starting highschool as it’s a night to go all out and celebrate the end of the year. With this seniors are planning carefully and there is a prom dress page on Instagram called @ghhspromdresses where the senior girls post photos of their dresses to prevent people from accidentally matching. Chloe Armbruster (12) commented, “I like how we can see all the girls’ outfits. They all are so different and so special I just like the page.” Prom starts at 7.00pm and goes till 10 pm at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma on the edge of Foss Waterway. Tickets are available now for $40 and there is no re-admittance if you leave during the dance. Many people make promposals leading up to the dance if they want to ask a date or friend to go with them. Sometimes they’re funny signs with puns like “SEA you at prom?” Other times they have significant meaning to the person such as to Natalie Behnke (12) who shared, “My boyfriend and I both love Frank Ocean so much and for the promposal he decided to make a sign that said ‘I wont let you fly solo at prom’, referencing franks song ‘Solo’. I could tell that he worked very hard on the sign and it was especially meaningful to me because he used one of my favorite songs as inspiration!” On the topic of dates guest forms are needed for prom dates or guests that are not Gig Harbor High School students, they are available starting on May 22nd and must be turned in prior to June 5th. They will be available in the main office and security office but must be returned to the main office fully filled out by June fifth. Be sure to note that if your guest is not a GHHs student they need to enter with you or they will not be allowed to go into the venue. There will be cookies and charcuterie cups as refreshments and prom nominations will be during tides time on May 29th. Prom planning can be fun but a ton of work. Sarah Ehler (12), a part of our ASB team, has worked this past year to plan prom, “I was so honored to be a part of the Prom Committee this year! We had such an amazing team of girls from leadership that have been working hard to make this dance awesome! It’s been so fun working with them on all the different components that go into Prom.” But no matter how much work you do before the dance you still need helping hands for the day of, so our ASB team is asking for volunteers to help set up the venue for Prom. This is a great opportunity for community service hours and to sign up you can contact Tiffany Clack at [email protected]. We hope it will be a night to remember!
