Ultimate frisbee is a fun and thrilling game. It takes a lot of skill and quick decision-making to score points. This game is just like football in that you score touchdowns in the end zones; however, it’s also like soccer in that you have to work together to move the frisbee down the field. When a player makes a catch, they have to stop and gather themselves to try and make another throw to a different teammate. This process takes place until one of the teams scores 11. If there is a tie, they continue to play until one of the teams is up by two points. Boone Leverett (11) expressed after a fun game this past week, “Ultimate frisbee is one of the greatest sports to be played! It’s like football, but with a frisbee. Crazy atmosphere, crazy catches, crazy fun!”

Ultimate is not for the faint of heart. It is a great game to play during the summer, and it is a team game, so no one person can take over. It takes everyone to play! Personally, I think playing the game on a short field is the best way to go, because heaving it all the way downfield is difficult to do, especially when taking into account the defenders and the wind. When there is less distance for the players to cover, short throws are more common. This forces fewer bad throws upon the players and instead helps them focus on moving the frisbee into the opponent’s territory. Having a safety player stay slightly behind the area where the frisbee is in play can help facilitate the game. They can see the field the best and find different throwing lanes that others usually can’t see. Ben Miller (11), an ultimate enthusiast, said, “Ultimate is so fun for me because you can be at any skill level and still have fun with your friends.”

Ultimate frisbee is one of the most underrated games, in my opinion. When choosing players for a spectacular game, look for competitiveness and a knack for throwing. This will guarantee you a perfect team. There are many reasons as to why Ultimate Frisbee is such a great game to play, and giving this game a chance, especially as a pastime with your friends during this upcoming summer. As Caleb Amidon (11) says, “The game of ultimate frisbee is a super fun way to be competitive and have fun with your friends.”
