Summer Approaches

Summer is a time for students to kick back and relax. There are plenty of ways to do this, such as by swimming, hanging out at the beach, or hiking. Doing these allows students to relax and not have to worry about any other things going on.

Swimming is a great way to cool off in the summer heat. Christian Keck (12) said, “I love heading to our neighborhood pool, dipping my toes into the pool, and hanging out with my friends. It’s a nice change of pace.” Keck continued, “Another thing I love about the pool is the hot tub. Sitting in it late at night is relaxing and helps me wrap my head around the fact that we are graduating and that our final year of school is over.” Swimming is just relaxing in general and fun; it’s a great way to let off some steam and allows kids to think about the fun and stress-free summer. A great thing about Gig Harbor is the countless number of beaches around; not as many people are allowed this luxury. Beaches are also a great place to chill and hang out with friends. Carsyn Hall (12) stated, “I love my beach. It’s nice to go down to a place and sun tan. Also, when night comes, it’s nice to have a bonfire, hang out with people, and socialize.” Beaches open up an endless amount of fun to be had.

Another luxury of living in the PNW is the vast amount of mountain ranges that open up endless amounts of hikes and other fun activities. Josh Pelczar (12) said, “Going up to the mountains and back packing is the most rugged thing anyone can do. The other great thing about it is that you can go up and find the BNSF train lines and watch them go, capturing the true essence of America. It brings a tear to my eyes to see the hard-working American lines hard at work.”

Another new hot hobby that students have taken up is golf. Ian Stewart (12) said, “I love golf. It’s nice just to go out and relax, and the satisfaction of hitting the perfect ball is just a feeling you can’t find anywhere else.” Golf is a nice way to get away from everything and relax.

All in all, summer is a great time for students. It’s nice to not worry about anything, especially school, so go out and enjoy it. For seniors, it will be the last summer you have as a high school student.
