The fall season is a personal favorite for many students and teachers alike. It brings fond memories, fun traditions, and, of course, Halloween. So we’re here to help you plan the perfect fall day based on student testimony. According to a survey sent out to randomly selected students, the colder seasons of fall and winter are vastly preferred and have more sentimental memories attached to them due to holidays like Christmas or Halloween. Traditions like that of student Sarah Johanson (9) include “getting together with] my neighbors… to make caramel apples and watch Halloween movies.
The preferred fall activities among these students included decorating, going to haunted houses, carving pumpkins, and making costumes. Wearing costumes is a staple of the fall season because people plan out costumes with their friends months in advance, so it’s on their minds for quite a long time. Some interesting costumes students planned for Halloween this year included a cowgirl, a super senior, astronauts, and matching with their friends and boyfriends. Joyabelle Wentlandt (9) states that the reason Halloween costumes are such a fun tradition is that “you get to pretend to be someone you are not.” Another fun idea students had to help get you into the fall mood was watching movies. The top recommendations included Coraline, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Coco, and Beetlejuice.
But drifting away from the spookiness of Halloween, fall can be an incredibly tranquil and aesthetically pleasing time of the year. Many students enjoy walking in nature and looking at the fall foliage. Calming activities like this seem to be the staple of the fall season because another fall activity that rated highly among participants was reading books while enjoying a fall treat. The books that were most closely associated with fall for students included If He Had Been With Me, Stephen King books, and Harry Potter. The treats students reported they looked forward to eating while reading included apple cider, caramel apple, and candy. Having a cute fall outfit is also a romanticized part of the fall experience; some recommendations from your fellow classmates like Kendall Leveret (9) were “sweater vests, uggs, and jeans.”
Ultimately, making the best of the fall season is a simple and pleasing task. As the leaves fall and the air becomes crisp, make sure to take advantage of the beautiful foliage and feeling that comes with autumn.
