Holiday Events in Gig Harbor

Holiday traditions are one of the most enjoyable and nostalgic parts of the year for both students and teachers. And with Gig Harbor being such a close-knit community, there are bound to be opportunities for people of all ages to join in the festivities.

One highly anticipated activity is attending local plays and live performances. The theater department has been working hard on a showing of A Christmas Carol and Frozen Jr., and many students attended the event. Show performances were scheduled for the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th of December. “The play was fun, but it was challenging making a split show; I hope everyone appreciates it,” performer Kendal Leverett shared about the experience.

Local businesses in and around Gig Harbor also host a variety of events, including the annual lighted boat parade. Residents can head to the waterfront district to enjoy the colorful scenery and picturesque boats. This year, the event was organized by the Gig Harbor Yacht Club. The parade began at approximately 5 pm on December 14th. Good viewing spots included Skansie Brothers Park and Jerisich Dock.

Younger children also have some exciting opportunities to participate in holiday activities, such as the month-long gnome hunt that many local businesses look forward to. Participants of all ages are challenged to find at least 15 gnomes hidden in and around establishments on the waterfront. Completing the hunt enters you into a raffle for a $100 gift card. Kids are encouraged to create or donate gnomes for the hunt, and this year the Waterfront Alliance is partnering with Stitch-A-Roo to provide a gnome-making class.

Additionally, Santa will soon be visiting Gig Harbor! Children of all ages can enjoy free photos with Santa at Donkey Creek Park. This event will take place on December 21st and 22nd from 12 to 2:30 pm. This event is open to the public, and complimentary treats will be provided.

Students also have their own holiday activities planned, with both family and friends. Caroline Carpenter (10) shared, “My favorite tradition is singing ‘Oh Christmas Tree’ in German with my family.” Samara Wilson (9) said, “My aunt always puts chocolates leading from the bedroom door to the Christmas tree every year for me and my brother.” Holiday traditions are unique to everyone and make the season so much more special. No matter the tradition, we hope your holidays are cheerful and bright!
