Boys Basketball has been balling all year long, playing well together as a team and making plays on both sides of the ball. They have consistently given their best effort, ultimately competing at a high level in all areas of the game. The dedication from these players has been top-tier all season, and they have proven themselves as physical competitors, always setting their hearts on winning.
Playing to their full potential requires every player to step up and perform their role at the highest level. On the court, fundamentals are key, and building familiarity with teammates during practice is essential for game-day success. However, there’s more to team chemistry than what happens during games. Off the court, players need to connect on a personal level to take their teamwork to the next level. Jack Brown (11), one of the team’s players, highlighted this importance, saying, “Team dinners are a good part of building chemistry, and on the court whenever we encourage each other to push harder, it builds chemistry as a team.” Building strong bonds with teammates is foundational in team sports, and having a coach who knows how to bring the team together is just as important. Brown gave credit to Coach Landram when asked to describe the team in three words, calling them a “great coached team.”
“We are a competitive group,” said senior Colin Nelson (12). “Whether we win or lose as a team, we are always there to pick each other up.” The Tides continue to show the importance of unity and perseverance, proving they are a relentless group through the highs and lows of the season.
During Christmas break, they traveled to Hawaii for a tournament where they faced out-of-state teams and performed exceptionally well, making it all the way to the championship game. Brown reflected on this time as one of the highlights of the season. “My favorite memory was definitely going to Hawaii with our whole team,” he said. Beyond competing in games, the team enjoyed some sun and fun, even though it wasn’t entirely a vacation.
This year, as part of the Puget Sound Conference, the Tides faced some new opponents compared to previous seasons. Gig Harbor has competed in several thrilling games, filled with exciting moments throughout. Lincoln Burleigh (11), another varsity player, shared his thoughts on the season so far. “My favorite game this year was Bellarmine at home,” he said. Back in December, this intense conference game featured back-and-forth action, high intensity, and clutch plays. The Tides ultimately came out on top in a nail-biter, winning 56-54 and proving their ability to handle pressure in tough situations.
Looking ahead, the Tides are wrapping up another winning season, competing in multiple games that showcase their true potential. With a relatively young roster, the team has plenty of room to grow, and the future of Gig Harbor basketball looks bright. It will be exciting to watch their continued success in the years to come.
