After high school, junior Alexis Johnson plans to go to college and get a degree in either law or engineering. Her dad attended the college fair with her and when asked if he had any plans he hoped his daughter would fulfill or colleges he hoped she would attend he stated, “No, just a school that she’s interested in, that meets her needs for her further education.”

On September 17th, students, parents, and college representatives met in the Gig Harbor commons to browse and present college options. Students came for many different reasons. Some already had specific schools in mind and came looking for back-ups, while others, like senior Jack Harry, were more interested in finding higher education locally. They were all there to start figuring out their post-high school plans and opportunities. Colleges from all over the state providing different options came to share information about the opportunities they can provide with the hazy or concrete plans students have for after graduation. Community colleges, four year colleges, and technical colleges attended the event, as well as ROTC program representatives, military apprenticeship programs, and companies and schools involved in foreign exchange. Over the course of the hour and a half event, pamphlets and flyers gave a brief insight into the options available to each student based largely on the field they were planning to go into and its cost. Several freshman attended the college fair as well. Even those who originally were forced into going because their parents wanted them to, left the college fair with arms full of pamphlets, excited about what would come after graduation.
