The students, dressed up in their Tides gear and tattooed with tidal waves, cheered and hollered from the bleachers. At one point in the game, a deep bellow of “Cooooov” would dominate the cheering, while at some exciting points, screaming and shouting from a bullhorn. On the evening of December 8th, this basketball game at Peninsula High School between 12 Gig Harbor and Peninsula High School teachers was tight, but nonetheless fun and spirited.

The Gig Harbor High School team wore blue and white jerseys with spirited nicknames on the back. Mr. Coovert (Air Coov), Mr. Chantler (Buckets), Mr. Davis (Tsunami), Mrs. Kurz (Kurzipedia), Mr. Marten (Basketball Jones), Mrs. Yeaman (Yea-Money), Mrs. Fisher (Tricky Fisher), Mrs. Klein (Air Klein), Mrs. Janski (Slam Dunk), Mr. Swanson (Swanny), Mrs. Clark (Lil’ Firecracker), and Mr. Windsor (Soarin Winds) all played with high fives, enthusiastic spirit, and of course, friendly competition.

The cheerleaders brought students together to encourage the teachers while Peninsula’s ASB arranged a fun half-time activity for GHHS seniors Isaac Northstrom and Lauren Sutton with two other Peninsula HS seniors. In addition, the game raised over $1000 for both school’s Scholarship Notebooks.

All in all, the game wasn’t about who scored how many points, but showed the spirit and power Peninsula and Gig Harbor High School has combined.
