Star Wars Breaks the Internet

There has been an awakening… have you felt it? Well your wallet sure will! On October 19th, a week ago on Monday, The tickets for the much anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens became available across all theaters for pre-sale, two months before the movie’s release date in December 17th.

It only took about two days for the film’s first day matinee tickets to be sold out across the board. Even now the movie’s second and third day ticket amounts are in danger of waning completely. The situation became so intense in fact, that the online websites of the providers of the tickets (Fandango, AMC Theaters, etc.) all crashed due to so many users utilizing the sites at once. Even now people are having problems purchasing a pass. You could say in a sense, as many people are, “Star Wars broke the internet”!

In addition to this, some theater chains in the UK such as Odeon Theaters are now establishing a “Blockbuster Tax” to compensate for the low supply of Star Wars tickets. Based on those presale tickets alone, Star Wars is projected to gross about $6.5 million on its opening day alone, breaking all kinds of movie and ticket sale records. One can only imagine the financial scale that this movie’s success will be not only in its following days, but also in other country’s populations around the world as well, including the European Unions and China. The Force truly is with moviegoers.
