Breaking News: Tide Pods Leave Humanity Questioning Our Own Level of Intellect
Many stores have taken the seemingly harmless Tide Pods off of the shelves and are now keeping them in locked “child proof” containers to prevent people from having easy access to them to participate in this potentially lethal challenge. There are many challenges that become popular on the internet, but this time, social media users have taken it too far.
Internet challenges have transformed from innocent dance moves like the “Running Man” into dangerous, and even fatal behaviors.
Despite the fact that more recent online challenges have become progressively more dangerous, teens are still participating in these challenges, presumably due to the attention it gets on social media. For some reason, the generation has heightened stupidity to the level of fame and popularity.
The Tide Pod Challenge is 2018’s latest mistake that really gets people questioning if this is the best way to start off the year. According to the Washington Post, challenge participant videos depict kids “biting into brightly colored liquid laundry detergent packets. Or cooking them in frying pans, then chewing them up before spewing the soap from their mouths.” What several participants don’t realize is that the harsh chemicals and poisonous detergents can cause serious injuries like chemical burns in your esophagus and mouth, even if they are not swallowed. If swallowed, toxic Tide Pods can lead to life threatening breathing problems, damage to the stomach, and even death.
If you haven’t hopped on the Tide Pod Challenge bandwagon, you are the beacon of hope for humanity’s reputation and sanity and from the bottom of the entire Gig Harbor High School Sound Staff, we urge you to not give in to Tide Pod Temptation.
