Senior Davis Alexander hopes to make a statement in Friday’s game versus Bellarmine.

Gig Harbor continued their success this past Friday with a win against Yelm at home on Senior night. The Tides took the game 51-14, and remain undefeated at 8-0 (5-0 league). Meanwhile, the Bellarmine Prep Lions won their most recent league game against Olympia, 16-13. The Lions are 6-2 (4-1 league). This sets up the Tides’ and Lions’ week 9 matchup to be played for the Narrows League Championship.

The winner of the game will face the #4 seed out of the Wesco 4A Division in the district playoffs. The loser will play the #2 seed out of the SPSL South division in the district playoffs. The Tides are the home team this year, and look to go back to back on League championships. The Tides won last year versus Bellarmine in week 9, 49-0 at Bellarmine’s home field. The Lions look to avenge last year’s rout with a win on Friday at Roy Anderson Field.

There are a few keys to success for the Tides coming into the game. “Staying level headed is huge. This is a big game with playoff implications, and we can’t let that get into our heads,” says senior wide receiver Dylan Lindmark. “Limiting their run game is going to be key. They have a good running back and filling holes and hustling on defense should help us stop him,” noted senior cornerback Cory Condon.

This game could be much closer than last year’s shellacking. Both teams understand what is at stake and will be putting their best efforts forward. Our prediction at the Gig Harbor Sound is a close defensive standoff early in the game, with Gig Harbor’s record breaking offense striking late to seal the win. Our score prediction is 24-7 to the Tides.
